CASS COUNTY OFFICIALS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS TO FILL DISTRICT 1 COUNTY COMMISSIONER VACANCY (due to the recent passing of Dale Sharp-District 1 Cass County Commissioner).  Application deadline 4:00p.m. January 17, 2025

Citizens interested in being appointed to fill the remaining term of Dale Sharp on the Cass County Board of Commissioners may submit a letter of application in care of Gerri Draper, Cass County - Clerk 346 Main Street, Room 202 Plattsmouth NE 68048 or at clerk@casscountyne.gov  on or before 4:00p.m. Friday January 17, 2025.  Applicants should submit a letter of application, resume, and the address of their residence. All submissions will be made public.

All applicants must be registered to vote and reside in Cass County Board District 1. To verify residency requirements, applicants may contact the Cass County Clerk at 402-296-9304 for assistance. District maps are available to download on our website.

Per State Statue, vacancies on County Boards are to be filled by a Committee of the County Attorney, County Clerk, and County Treasurer.  Letters of application will be reviewed in advance of personal interviews which will be conducted prior to a public hearing (date and time to be selected after all applications have been received by the Committee).  A decision on the appointment is expected to be made on or before February 12, 2025.  The appointee to this position will serve for the remainder of the term, which expires January 2029. 

County boards have legislative and administrative duties. The primary responsibilities include the management of county funds and adoption of the budget; oversight of county property; setting of tax levies; and administration of several programs established by state law. The Cass County Board meets every other Tuesday at 8:00am at the Cass County Courthouse. The Board of Commissioners also serves as the County Board of Equalization. Commissioners also serve on other committees, advisory boards and/or task forces. Additional information on the Cass County Board is available here.
