CASS COUNTY OFFICIALS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS TO FILL DISTRICT 2 COUNTY COMMISSIONER VACANCY
Application deadline of December 20, 2021
Citizens interested in being appointed to fill the remaining term of Janet McCartney on the Cass County Board of Commissioners may submit a letter of application in care of the Cass County Clerk Gerri Draper 346 Main Street, Room 202 Plattsmouth NE 68048 or at clerk@cassne.org on or before Monday December 20, 2021 at 4:00pm. McCartney has decided to resign effective December 31, 2021. Applicants should submit a letter of application, resume, and the address of their residence. All submissions will be made public.
All applicants must be registered to vote and reside in Cass County Board District 2. To verify residency requirements, applicants may contact the Cass County Election Commissioner at 402-296-9309 for assistance. District maps are available to download here.
Prior to personal interviews which will be conducted during a public meeting (date and time to be selected after all applications have been received by the Committee of Colin Palm-County Attorney, Gerri Draper-County Clerk and Cindy Fenton-County Treasurer) letters of application and resumes will be reviewed by the Committee. Per State Statue, vacancies on a county board are to be filled by county attorney, county clerk, and county treasurer. A decision on the appointment is expected to be made on or before February 14, 2022. The appointee to this position will serve for the remainder of the current term, which expires on January 5, 2023.

County boards have legislative and administrative duties. The primary responsibilities include the management of county funds and adoption of the budget; oversight of county property; setting of tax levies; and administration of several programs established by state law. The Cass County Board meets every other Tuesday at 8:00am at the Cass County Courthouse. The Board of Commissioners also serves as the County Board of Equalization.
